Gorges Givers, a Schuyler County group who raises funds to support women with cancer in the service area of Schuyler Hospital, has won the “Volunteer Fundraiser of the Year” award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) as part of National Philanthropy Day.
Since 1986, National Philanthropy Day has recognized the spirit of giving across the nonprofit community, honoring individuals, groups, and organizations whose generosity strengthen their communities. The “Volunteer Fundraiser of the Year” Award is presented to a group or individual who has demonstrated exceptional volunteer leadership and commitment to advancing charitable causes.
Gorges Givers partners with the Schuyler Hospital Foundation to ensure women in Schuyler County and the surrounding area who have been diagnosed with cancer not only have financial assistance, but also appropriate screening, treatment, and recovery services. So far, since their inception in 2023, they have raised $80,000 to assist nine women through their cancer journey.
“The Gorges Givers are a shining example of what can happen when people come together out of love and compassion for their community,” said Kim Sprague, Director of the Schuyler Health Foundation. “Their work has directly improved the lives of these women, and we’re proud to see their efforts recognized by AFP.”
“At Cayuga Health, we see every day how community-driven philanthropy changes lives,” said Steph Bailey, Senior Director of Philanthropy at Cayuga Health. “The Gorges Givers’ dedication reflects the very best of our region’s spirit: generosity, collaboration, and a deep commitment to caring for one another.”
